While traveling around West Virginia for a long weekend, I was blown away by this state’s beauty. After exploring Fayetteville and the nature surrounding the New River Gorge, I was charmed by local shops and mountain allure. With the New River Gorge and an enchanting downtown, there are so many unique things to do in Fayetteville, WV.

Fayetteville, West Virginia, was established in 1872 and has been an integral town during the Civil War and the Industrial Revolution. At one time, Fayetteville was a bustling city due to coal mining and timber production. Presently, Fayetteville is known for its local shops, outfitter stores, and the New River Gorge.

The New River Gorge has recently been designated as a National Park. It is a popular destination for adventure and nature enthusiasts who come for activities such as hiking, white water rafting, rock climbing, and biking. Additionally, on the third Saturday in October, visitors can witness daredevils BASE jumping into the New River during Bridge Day.
