You may have heard of Pinehurst, North Carolina as it is home to one of the most renowned golf courses in the United States and has hosted the US Open 4 times. Besides golfing, there are plenty of things to do in Pinehurst, NC such as the charming shopping area, adorable homes, and a tranquil spa. I decided to spend the day with my Mom exploring this quaint village. Here is everything you need to know before visiting.

Things to Do in Pinehurst, North Carolina Besides Golf

Basic Questions

Before visiting, you may have a few questions about the area! Listed below is the important stuff to know when planning a trip to Pinehurst.

What time of year is best to visit?

Visiting Pinehurst is truly dependent on the activities you wish to enjoy! If you want to visit Pinehurst for shopping, explore the village, or the spa then you can visit anytime.

Can you walk around Pinehurst?

Yes, walking is the best way to get around Pinehurst village, but a car is necessary to get to other activities such as golfing and the surrounding areas. Another great option for getting around is a golf cart! Because golfing is ingrained in this community, you will also see a ton of golf carts as a means of transportation around the village.

What is Pinehurst NC known for?

Pinehurst is known for being one of the best golfing destinations in the country. So much so, that the US Open has been hosted in Pinehurst 4 times, most recently in 2024.

Pinehurst is so special because the history of the town has been preserved well and of course, golfing. Visitors also come to Pinehurst for the spa and the cute village for shopping and dining.

Pinehurst is definitely worth visiting as it is such a unique North Carolina destination that makes for a perfect day trip or weekend getaway.

Where to stay in Pinehurst

  • Pinehurst Resort
    • Within the resort, there are several accommodation options including hotels, inns, cottages, and condos. I would check out the Pinehurst Resort’s accommodation page to look into the different places to stay that meet your needs.
  • Budget-Friendly Options
    • If you are traveling on a budget, I would also check out accommodations in Southern Pines as it is a super cute town only within 15 minutes of Pinehurst.

Shopping

Within the village, there are several different shops for you to explore. You can easily spend a few hours simply perusing all of the storefront. The majority of the shops are located on Chinquapin Rd and Market Square.

While staying in Pinehurst, you have some great food and drink options. Whether you are looking for fine dining or a quick casual bite, Pinehurst has so many places to choose from. Below are some of my recommendations!

Admire the cute houses

While walking along the village, I suggest going off the beaten path! There are some beautiful homes surrounding Pinehurst Village that have so much character. There is no better way to explore the town than by wandering around.

If golfing isn’t your thing, you can still enjoy the resort by visiting the spa. The spa offers massages, facials, nail care, and other body treatments. Day passes are also available for $50.

I know, I know the title of this post specifically says “things to do in Pinehurst NC besides golf“, but it would be wrong to not give you a little bit of direction with Pinehurst being a huge golfing destination.

This is the most obvious thing to do in Pinehurst, NC. There are 40 courses in the Sandhills area and 12 courses within the resort. For more golfing information, I suggest visiting Home of Golf to explore the various packages that cater to your needs.
