During our trip to the Outer Banks, my husband and I chose to stay at Oregon Inlet Campground, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience! Although it is technically located in Nags Head, just before the Marc Basnight Bridge, the campground is relatively close to the main attractions of the Outer Banks while still being more secluded. This made it the perfect spot for exploring the Outer Banks and the surrounding areas!

Oregon Inlet Campground
Oregon Inlet Campground is located right across the dunes from the Atlantic Ocean and is within walking distance to the Oregon Inlet Channel. This campground is perfect for families and individuals who want to be surrounded by nature and enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, surfing, and even hiking on Pea Island Nature Preserve.
Note: If you are tent camping, I suggest selecting a site within loop A. We made the mistake of choosing a site available for both RVs and tents and wish we would’ve been more observant when making this selection.

Facilities
The facilities here are pretty basic. We went tent camping, so we didn’t need RV hookups, but they are available if that is what you need.
The showers did have hot water, but you needed to pull a chain for the water to stay on. There also weren’t any good spots to place your toiletries while showering. This may be because I am not used to roughing it, but I wish the showers were a bit more accommodating.
Luckily, the restrooms were on site and were kept up pretty well so I do not have any complaints there!
Other features: potable water, dump station, and cell service.
Honest Review
I believe camping is a personal preference, so this review may not be helpful to those with different camping styles. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Oregon Inlet Campground. Being immersed in nature while also being a short drive from major attractions was wonderful! My only complaint is that the showers could really use an upgrade. Overall, the bathrooms were nice and clean and the campground was kept up very well! I would definitely stay here again!

Outer Banks Campgrounds
Camping around the Outer Banks is a great way to immerse yourself in the area. Depending on where you want to be located, there are several options within the Outer Banks. Listed below are some other campgrounds I would suggest:
- Cape Point
- It is located on the southern part of the Outer Banks on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. You will get great views of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and are within walking distance of the beach.
- Frisco
- Also located on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Great option to be in close vicinity to the ocean.
- Ocracoke
- Will need to arrive at Ocracoke Island by ferry.
- Primitive Camping: Camp on the beach at Cape Lookout National Seashore
- A ferry is needed to reach the campground, but such an amazing experience to camp directly on the beach!
