Wilmington, NC, downtown parking
Before getting to downtown Wilmington, I must warn you of the parking situation. You will typically always find a spot, but you may need to circle a few times. AVOID AT ALL COSTS the paid lots, as they are typically a fixed fee for a crazy amount of money.
Tip: I like to opt for the parking deck on 2nd Street. There are always spaces, and the first 30 minutes are free.

- Wrightsville Beach ~ 15 minutes from downtown Wilmington
- Wrightsville Beach is unique from the other four beaches because of its beautiful blue water. Even though Wrightsville is the closest beach to downtown, it may be the most inconvenient due to the lack of and cost of parking. During the busy seasons, parking spots tend to fill up by 9 am.
- Topsail Island ~45 minutes from downtown Wilmington

- Kure Beach and Fort Fisher ~Kure 25 minutes, Fort Fisher 30 minutes
- If your ideal beach vacation is to escape the chaos of your everyday life and enjoy the peace and serenity of the ocean, then I recommend Kure Beach, NC, and Fort Fisher Recreational Area. These two beach areas offer a quieter experience compared to other beaches in the Wilmington area, as they prioritize nature and relaxed living.
- Carolina Beach ~25 minutes from downtown Wilmington
- Carolina Beach will transport you back in time with an old-school boardwalk, retro motels, and charming beach cottages. Carolina Beach truly offers something for families and adults, from amusement rides to a lively boardwalk.

Coffee and Food
Wilmington Restaurants
Visitors may not know this, but Wilmington is a huge foodie destination in North Carolina. There are constantly new and innovative restaurants, food trucks, and even a few James Beard-nominated chefs. You could spend your whole Wilmington, NC itinerary indulging in all of the delicious restaurants.
My Favorite Dining Options in Downtown Wilmington include:

- Delicious local seafood options with a rotating seasonal menu. Don’t just take my word for it; the chef at Seabird, Dean Neff, was a 2024 James Beard finalist.
- Another delicious option with a mix of Spanish and Italian dishes. James Beard semi-finalist in 2025.
- Olivero is located in the Castle Street District, which is SUCH a hidden gem. If you have the time, spend an afternoon exploring Castle Street in Wilmington.
- My mouth is watering just thinking about the delicious food at Savorez. Savorez serves Latin American fusion dishes for dinner and Sunday brunch at a more affordable price point and AMAZING alcoholic beverages.
- Note: Make sure to get there early or be prepared to wait, as the restaurant is small and it fills up quickly.
- A trendy gourmet sandwiches spot with a trendy atmosphere. Located in the up-and-coming Brooklyn Arts District.
- A cool and vibey sushi restaurant with quality food and drinks. A pro tip is to go during the happy hour from 5 pm to 7 pm during the week and 10 pm to midnight during the weekends, where select appetizers and rolls are half off.
Coffee Shops
Compared to Wilmington’s size, there seems to be no shortage of coffee shops! A few of my favorites that make for a great morning pick-me-up or even an invigorating nightcap include:
- The most unique coffee shop in downtown with the historic building, dinosaur theme, and a lush backyard area to get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful weather.
- A great tried-and-true coffee shop option with delicious seasonal flavors. Bespoke has also recently offered alcoholic beverages starting at 4 pm.
- With a beautiful greenhouse, vibey lounge, and firepits, this is the perfect spot morning or night! During the evening, there are outdoor firepits with s’mores available and espresso martini flights to try the different options.
- Tip: If you want to add “try an espresso martini flight” to your Wilmington, NC itinerary, then I highly suggest making a reservation prior to coming.
