One of the coolest aspects of Wilmington, NC, is that there are so many pockets with their own identity and vibe. One of the most unique districts in Wilmington, NC, is the Castle Street District. Hidden gem is such a cliche term, but this lesser-known area in Wilmington is such a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Half of a day is the perfect amount of time to walk down the street to discover eclectic antique shops, curated thrift stores, and delicious food. You will find all of the shops along this street are locally owned small businesses. Castle Street is located less than 2 miles from downtown Wilmington. Luckily, street parking is free, and typically you should not have any issues finding a spot. If there is an event or a market, parking may be more sparse, but you should not have any issues.

Shopping on Castle Street is a must-do for any vintage and thrift shop lovers. There are 5 vintage shops concentrated within the one-mile stretch, each with their own vibe and some even focusing on a specific style or decade. Listed below are all the vintage and thrift stores to stop by:

Jess James + Co

  • Curated vintage shop featuring styles from the 1920s-1970s. Jess James, the owner of Jess James, brought her expertise from the fashion industry in New York City to Wilmington, NC.

Modern Love

  • An eclectic mix of clothing, furniture, knick-knacks, art, and guitars featuring mid-century modern and Y2K styles.

Vintage Values

  • A typical thrift store offers both clothing and home goods. All proceeds go to the domestic violence shelter.

Rescue Mission Thrift Store

  • A donation-based thrift with some good finds!

Gravity Records

  • A vintage record store that truly matches the unique vibe of Castle Street.

La Mar Salada

  • Spanish market that offers cooking classes once a week. Spaces fill up quickly, so it is sign up a month in advance.

  • This restaurant takes the term “fresh catch” to a whole new level as the owners enjoy spear fishing and will typically have their fresh catch on the menu. Olivero

  • Another delicious option with a mix of Spanish and Italian dishes. James Beard semi-finalist in 2025. Olivero is so yummy with a wide range of food choices and cool atmosphere.

  • A tried and true brunch spot with your typical brunch options, but absolutely delicious and quality food.

On Thyme

  • What originally started as a future truck became such a large success that they decided to open a brick-and-mortar shop. Described as “tavern food with a twist,” On Thyme offers delicious fast-casual food options.

Castle Street Kitchen

  • Classic restaurant with salads, sandwiches, and burgers. Castle Street Kitchen also offers a Sunday brunch, which looks delicious!

Wilmington Wine

  • This is the cutest hole-in-the-wall wine shop that feels like the neighborhood gathering place. On Fridays, they offer free wine tastings, which is such a fun experience! While you are there, also make sure to check out Creative Tastings, which is also owned by the Wilmington Wine owners.

  • Super fresh smoothies and salads where they emphasize quality ingredients.

Luna Cafe

  • Dare I say, Luna Cafe has the best coffee in Wilmington. Luna Cafe roasts their coffee, and their shop provides a nostalgic 90s to early 2000s vibe.

Castle Street pairs perfectly with the trendy Cargo District with its one-of-a-kind shops, trendy bars, and delicious restaurants.
